Trusted Construction in Albany NY Since 1946

1927

Ralph Aversa created Crown Window Company. After living and working in Astoria, NYC, working as a carpenter on large multi-story housing projects, he realized the need for not just a double hung window, but an affordable casement style window that would allow residents to wash their windows in high rises. Using his education in architecture from Rome, Italy, Ralph was able to procure a patent on his window design and began manufacturing windows. Unfortunately, during the Great Depression, this dream was cut short and Ralph was forced to pivot his business.

1936

Ralph moved out of NYC to the Capital District for a new endeavor. It was here that he started building custom homes, mainly in the suburbs of Latham, NY and the surrounding communities.

1946

Ralph, with his wife Josephine Gallo, continued building custom homes and developed Elm Grove Estates within Latham, going under the name of Colonie Construction Corp and making Josephine the President of the company. At that time, he Introduced Anthony Gallo, his adopted stepson, to the construction industry.

1955

Anthony Gallo formally joined the company. Anthony was taught custom woodworking craftsmanship, and the company pre-assembled all the windows, doors and cabinets in a barn prior to installing in the field. They used hand-made pieces in the custom homes that they built for prominent businessmen, doctors and lawyers at the time.

1961

Anthony built a warehouse with attached office space and moved the company from 1st street in Watervliet to its current location where Gallo Construction still resides.

1970

Anthony, still building custom homes for recommended clients, was looking to expand the Company. He worked to enter into light commercial projects. In 1979, he built the first CT Scan Addition for St. Mary’s Hospital. He also built the seven story Mahayana Temple Structure, which was a cast in place concrete structure. This is the time period that Gallo Construction began moving toward more municipal work.

1984

Michael Gallo, son of Anthony Gallo, joined Gallo Construction. Michael had worked with his father at a young age, learning every aspect of the business through decades of shadowing him. The craftmanship that his father knew so well was passed down through hands-on learning.

1985

Anthony Gallo, after many years of contemplating, decided to change the name of the company from Colonie Construction Corp, which was a well-recognized name in the industry, to Gallo Construction Corp. Anthony Gallo wanted the company to continue going forward with his namesake.

1990

Michael began expanding the business by focusing strictly on commercial and municipal work, expanding the geographical region all the way to the mid-Atlantic states and becoming a licensed contractor in the state of Virginia.

2000

Michael recognized the need to diversify Gallo Construction’s work portfolio, and the company moved into other markets outside of commercial building. Gallo Construction began exploring different sectors of construction, such as heavy civil construction of bridges, water/wastewater treatment plants, utilities, pump stations, and educational facilities.

2006

Gallo expanded its company into the highway and bridge market building its first bridge in Saratoga County that was over 120-foot span.

2014

Gallo concentrated on diving deeper into the water and wastewater treatment construction realm. Gallo focused on procuring four treatment plants simultaneously to get a larger foothold in the market and gain a better understanding of process mechanical construction. Gallo captured the Glens Falls WWTP which was the first plant Gallo completed greater than $4 million in size

2025

Today Gallo Construction has diversified its work portfolio even further as the company has expanded. Gallo still has a strong basis in commercial building and ground-up construction, but it is supplemented with an equally healthy backlog of work in heavy civil construction, including more water/wastewater treatment plants, structural rehabilitation projects, and deep excavation and shoring. Gallo has also expanded its work radius from the office in Watervliet, NY to service a broader range of clients in the capital region, mid-Hudson region, lower Hudson-region, Mohawk River region, north country region, southern Vermont, Western Massachusetts, central Massachusetts, and Western Connecticut.
