Project Engineer

Introduction

We are hiring a Project Engineer with experience in ground-up building construction or heavy civil construction. The PE must have experience working with subcontractors, vendors and craft employees to successfully complete projects on time and within budget. The ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and submittals is required.

Job Summary

Provide support for our construction and estimating teams, including supporting with our submittals, RFI’s, requests for bids, M/WBE utilization plans, and material takeoffs. Assist project managers in planning, coordination and execution of work to be on time and within budget while maintaining a safe workplace and promoting client relationships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the estimating team by working on material takeoffs and communicating with subcontractors and vendors to receive quotes pre-bid
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and deliver municipal bids as required
  • Assist with maintaining our bid calendar, reviewing bid documents, and posting M/WBE advertisements
  • Support the project management team by utilizing drawings and specifications to determine comprehensive project scopes and assist in buying out the necessary materials and signing up subcontractors
  • Document and manage project correspondence including submittals and RFI’s
  • Visit jobsites as necessary to perform quantity takeoffs, deliver misc. materials, or discuss potential roadblocks with subcontractors
  • Update CPM schedules with the project manager weekly, forecasting the required subcontracted work force, as well as Gallo labor, heavy equipment, and rentals

Job Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in heavy civil or building construction OR a college degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, or related field with construction internship experience
  • Ability to travel within a 1 hour radius of Watervliet, NY
  • Looking to grow within our organization and progress to Project Manager and/or Estimator after training and mentorship
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements and ability to complete an in-house jobsite safety audit
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project/Excel/Outlook, and other basic computer software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Desire to gain exposure to a wide variety of construction projects including new ground-up building, building renovation, cast-in-place concrete, deep excavation, historical renovation, structural rehabilitation, water/wastewater treatment, process mechanical piping and equipment, site work, and pump stations.
  • Familiar with large projects where multiple subcontractors are on site performing work
  • Experience working on hard dollar bid municipal projects with self-performed labor
  • Background in construction cost estimating and change order negotiation

Intern - Project Engineer – Co-Op Spring Semester 2025

Introduction

We are hiring a project engineering intern for spring semester of 2025. We are actively searching for individuals looking to grow in the construction industry who are desiring to grow their skillsets, progress in their careers, and help us put complex infrastructure work in place.

Job Summary

Provide support for estimating municipal bids as well as for on-site construction, including communicating with subcontractors and vendors, soliciting bids, working on submittals. Work directly with estimators, project managers and superintendents.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist lead estimators in the assembly of bids, including communicating with subcontractors and vendors, soliciting bids from suppliers, leveling scopes with subcontractors, and completing quantity takeoffs
  • Work with project managers on active projects, including communicating with subcontractors, ordering materials, purchasing small tools and supplies
  • Analyze plans and specifications and utilize these to generate a list of scopes and subcontractors required on a project, including active jobs and active bids
  • Help superintendents, project managers and estimators with developing work plans, maintaining schedules, drafting RFI’s and completing submittals
  • Promote our company image through professional interaction with owners, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers on our jobsites

Job Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a 2-year or 4-year college degree in construction, engineering, business, or a related discipline
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, and other basic computer software
  • Willing to work full time during summer months
  • Seeking gainful employment in the construction industry post-graduation
  • Valid US driver’s license and reliable transportation required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working experience or college course experience on construction projects related to complex municipal infrastructure work, including new buildings, retrofits, heavy civil projects, wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, concrete rehabilitation.
  • College Upper Classmen (Junior/Senior)
  • Ability to perform takeoffs, level scopes and communicate with vendors
  • Professional individual capable of written and verbal communication
